Message From President

The International Wine & Food Society (IWFS) was founded in 1933 in London, England and is the world's oldest, most renowned and most widespread independent gastronomic society.  It has spread its wings to the four corners of the globe for the enjoyment of nourishing and quality of wines and food.

The society's mission is the promotion of a broad knowledge and understanding of both wine and food, the enhancement of their appreciation and the nurturing of fellowship among those who share the pleasures of the table.

I am privileged to serve as President of the IWFS, Penang as our society offers our membership the best of great wines, fine food and warm camaraderie in a truly global sense. Members of IWFS Penang get together bi-monthly in a variety of venues to taste, discuss and above all enjoy wine, food and fellowship.

I am indeed proud that IWFS Penang, Malaysia, being a non wines producing country are able to succeed extremely well in organizing uncountable functions all these years.

2007 has been a successful one and we have been able to organize numerous interesting wine dinners.

08-07-2007 IWFS Dinner @ Miraku Japanese Restaurant, G-Hotel

06-10-2007 Wine Tasting @ Lone Pine Hotel

15-12-2007 Presidential Dinner / Masquerade Ball @ E&O Hotel

01-03-2008 Winemaker's Dinner @ Miraku Japanese Restaurant

One of the most notable has been the dinner at the 1885 with Pierre Perrin from Chateau Beaucastel.  The other interesting event was the dinner at Hardwicke where the chef from the famous Rhone Valley Restaurant of La Mere Germaine was invited to cook for us.

Let us not forget the recent dinner at Miraku Japanese Restaurant where Dr NK Yong has kindly brought in the famous winemaker, Michel Gros to showcase his excellent Burgundies.  I wish to thank Tan Sri Konishi for making this event possible.

Further, I am indeed proud to announce that the IWFS Penang has been selected to host the mini festival for the for the Asia Pacific Zone on the 24th to 26th October 2008.  Delegates from Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh will be expecting to attend this event in big numbers.  On our part, the committee has been working hard to make it a success.  However, its success can only be achieved if our own members participate fully and give us their 100% support.  I therefore urge members to keep these 3 days available and help us to welcome our overseas guests.  Let us show them our how beautiful our Penang Island is and how delicious our local cuisine can be.

As members of the IWFS, we are united in camaraderie and in the celebration of wine, food and friendship.

Serving mankind with pleasures and satisfaction.

Thank you.
